Office furniture forms a critical part of the office interior, and it should be in harmony with the office design. It should also be ergonomic in design to make sure that employees develop no physical problems after extended use of the furniture.

An ordinary employee spends a significant part of his day at the office, so he faces the danger of grievous health issues if he or she has to sit in an awkward posture or stoop over his desk during work. Thus it is critical for employers to ensure that office furniture, particularly office chairs, are designed to enhance employees' comfort.

There are some key features to look for when buying office chairs. You should ensure that the selected office chairs are stable, easily movable and optimally adjustable. The arm rests of chairs must fulfil their purpose well, and the height must be easily adjustable so that the occupant can adjust the chair as per his requirement. The chair must permit comfortable mobility of hands and legs such that the worker can implement his jobs without any hindrances. The most crucial feature of an office chair is its back support. It must offer enough comfort to the occupant and cause no stress to his or her spine, and it needs to be optimally cushioned and curved for this purpose.

Office desks come next in order of priority in office furniture. Desks should be of an ideal height and should have enough space on top to allow staff to do both computer and writing tasks with ease. Small office desks are quite uncomfortable and force the worker to take awkward sitting positions that may result in painful cramps and back pain.

The placement of office furniture also plays a crucial part in the overall ergonomic setting of the work place. Workstations should have sufficient space in between so that staff can move or carry objects easily without disturbing a worker sitting at his workstation.

Good office ergonomics ensure not only a fit workforce but a more efficient and productive one as well. An employee can handle and arrange his work efficiently and can perform his jobs in a comfortable and spirited way if the ergonomics in his office are conducive to his health and fitness.

Office design should be such that it totally rids the staff of any sort of bodily discomfort as far as possible. The office interior must try to develop such working conditions in which staff can carry out their tasks in a very productive manner without any health concerns, so that the company reaps the benefits of a healthy and productive workforce.
