Are you considering leveling a mage? They're a lot of fun to play as, it's great to be able to throw Fireballs and Frost Bolts from a distance.

If you happen to be new to the whole class and want a little de-briefing before you start, I'll go over a few early game tips that should get you off on the right foot:

-When you start out leveling a mage, your first two spells you can use will be Fireball and Frost Armor. Youll want to keep your Frost Armor up at all times as it increases your armor by 30 and it slows down any enemy that strikes you.

-Upon reaching level 2, you will pick up Arcane Brilliance, this will increase your intellect by 2 for 30 minutes. Make sure you keep this on at all times along with your Frost Armor, the mage is very buff dependent.

-When you hit level 4, you will gain access to Frostbolt, you'll also gain the conjure water spell. This will allow you to generate your own mana potions so you never have to buy them again!

-From this point on its a good idea to open with a Frostbolt to slow the enemy down, then let off 2-3 Fireballs to kill the enemy before it reaches you.

-Upon reaching level 6, you will have Fire Blast to add to your arsenal, this is going to be your first instant cast spell. Its a good idea to use this if an enemy ever gets too close to you. Mages die pretty quickly once the enemy gets too close, so be sure to save this spell for such occasions.

-Upon reaching level 6 you will also get the spell Conjure Food which will allow you to create health regenerating food.

Soon after this, you'll be close to the main city for your race and so you'll have the opportunity to upgrade a lot of your equipment.

This info should be enough to start you off leveling a mage. If you need anything more than this, a good leveling guide should do the trick.
