Internet security is a form of security on the internet, a way to protect yourself from criminals online. With millions of web surfers online each day, you can be sure there are criminals online too. With a certain level of internet security you can protect yourself online from these scum bags.

Online security is a little bit different then offline security. In addition to criminals, you have hackers, crackers, and malicious code. Crackers try to break into your computer with the intent to damage or steal your information. Hackers are like crackers but they do not damage or steal. They just invade your privacy. Malicious code comes in different forms. The most common are viruses, spyware, and adware.

Ok, that is great and all, but how do you protect yourself? What do you need to provide a high level of security. A high level of protection from crackers, hackers, and malicious code. Here are three great ways to up your level of defense online.

Start with your computer. It has all of your personal files on it. Protect them with a firewall. Firewalls scan the doorways that intruders may use to gain access to your PC. A firewall is essential for a wireless network. If you have a wireless network, you have more doorways.

The second thing you can do is install antivirus software. Viruses are born every day online. Antivirus software is constantly updated to defeat this ever changing threat.

Where you go, what you do, and your passwords are a high commodity among online thieves. They use software called spyware to get your information. To combat this, install antispyware. Make sure it comes packed with protection from Trojans, key loggers, and adware.
