It has become fairly common knowledge spyware and viruses have the ability to make your computer perform very badly and may actually ruin it altogether. It is also becoming well known registry corruption can make your computer perform just as poorly. The problem is, there are times neither of these things are present and the computer still won't perform, as it should. What else could be happening to cause a computer malady in this instance?
It has become fairly common knowledge spyware and viruses have the ability to make your computer perform very badly and may actually ruin it altogether. It is also becoming well known registry corruption can make your computer perform just as poorly. The problem is, there are times neither of these things are present and the computer still won't perform, as it should. What else could be happening to cause a computer malady in this instance? In this article, we will discuss a problem that was once a very difficult one to nail down. Since this problem was not causing serious trouble, it would often be left alone. As time went on it would cause the computer to become more and more listless. Eventually, the problem would become bad enough; the owner would decide it would be easier to replace the computer than to continue to deal with its quirks indefinitely. What is a Device Driver? A computer needs a software program so it can talk to its peripherals, like the monitor or the printer, or anything else the computer is hooked up to. This type of software program is called a device driver. Sometimes they are installed from a CD-Rom and sometimes they are already a part of the operating system. Nonetheless, our PC needs interpreter software so it can deal with the hardware that is often a different brand than the PC and may even be newer than the PC. Device drivers often cause problems because of the simple fact their early versions are many times unstable and need to be upgraded. If this is not done, due to the driver's inefficiency, the computer will lose speed and generally speaking, not work well. The Generic Driver Sometimes drivers which are installed, especially when the product being installed was a heavily discounted one, are not the exact driver for the product but the best fit that could be found at no or little cost. Needless to say this type of driver can also cause instability and loss of speed for the computer in which it was installed. Not all drivers are duds from the get-go. There are times there is nothing at all wrong with a driver but after Microsoft does one of its surprise operating system updates, the driver will no longer be a perfect fit between the OS and the hardware. Yes, Drivers Need Periodic Upgrades By now you can see how a device driver can cause a whole bundle of trouble for a computer. Unless the operator is constantly searching for the best one at any time, the computer could start to run slow and become unstable. As you might imagine, locating a bad driver in a PC and then finding an upgrade or replacement for it could be a difficult job. Indeed, at one time this type of chore was reserved for the geeks amongst us. The good news is there are now software programs known as driver scanners that will do the whole job for us! I believe a driver scanner, at least a good one, may end up being the most important computer tool to come along in a long time. I also believe every computer owner should have one installed on each one of his or her PCs. This tool, along with a spyware/virus cleaner and a registry cleaner have the ability to keep a computer operating efficiently and without slowing down for a long time to come!
