I was in shock when my father told me he was lost when he called the house. Immediately I panicked and began to worry. Right away I started thinking that perhaps he has Alzheimers or something even worse. This could not be happening, he was a taxi driver. After my finding out that information, I questioned him. Is there any restaurant near you, or are there any people near by to help you, street signs near you at all, can you tell me if you cut the car off? Grrr!
Grrr! I felt a lot better when he told me that all the new streets that had recently been put in on that side of town had made him lose track of where his turn was. He made me admit that I thought he was losing his mind to old age. I was relieved to find out he was still in his right mind. So the next chance I got, I went to several stores looking for a GPS system that my pop could use. It had to be easy because let's face it, he pulls over, gets out of the car and looks up our phone numbers in his hand written address book to use his 'programmed by me' cell phone. I'm sure if it weren't for me he'd still be carrying around that prehistoric 20 lb bag phone. Well after two thousand questions to over a dozen clerks, and store attendants, I finally found the Navigon 2100T portable GPS. I thought the portable feature was really great in the sense that he could put it in either the car or the truck. It's also not big and bulky like the Cobra GPSM 2500, or too small like the Magellan Roadmate. I mean come on, he does wear bifocals! Navigon 2100T portable GPS also has excellent 3D graphics! I wasn't able to find this on any of the models I looked at. The roads look enough like they do in real life that my father finds it much easier to navigate. It also comes with "test to speech" technology. Wow what a great little feature. I've heard GPS systems in the past that tell you turn left 15 miles down the road. This neat little machine tells you to turn left at "Carlisle Street." My dad knows streets. Guesstimating 15 miles is a stretch. He's too proud to touch the little button that measures your distance on the car. By the time you've turned down the wrong road, you're five minutes into it before you realize it was the next left. But not with the Navigon 2100T portable GPS system. If you want to get traffic control a nice feature to upgrade to is the replaceable SD card. If you get caught up in traffic, you can find another route to your destination. Not to mention, the price wasn't bad at all. I finally caved in on Amazon and got two for a little over $300. Well, I had to have one too. In less than a month, my dad had out done me and was showing me how to use my Navigon 2100T portable GPS.
