And as you might expect the patients I cared for were all grateful for the care they received. It is terrible to be sick, and when you are you don't think about the associated cost of treatment. You just want to be well. I have even had family members tell me that they wanted "everything" done for the patient. They were not concerned about the cost only treating the patient. But the surprise comes later, maybe weeks later when the hospital bill arrives. Most I am sure are extremely grateful for the treatment they received. But they are also perplexed, how could a three day stay in the hospital could cost tens of thousands of dollars.
