They are called day traders as they will begin to trade at the start of the trading day, but intend will close all positions by the end of trading, rather than continuing to the following day.

Institutional day traders once dominated the financial markets. Employed by banks and investment firms, the resources and capital which is available to an institutional day trader is large, and constant. Although there is the risk of losing, these day traders often take more chances, but they are experienced, and have advantages from their position, unlike the retail day trader.

A retail day trader is one who works for himself, or with a few other traders. They use their own capital, and occasionally that of other people to trade. Originally, this was extremely difficult, but there have been recent developments, such as the internet, which have allowed retail day traders the chance to make a huge amount of profit. However, what must be remembered is that it is also possible to make a large loss when trading.

To begin day trading, it is best to undergo a day trading course. Looking online, and in books, you will be much more grounded in your knowledge of day trading. This will help you form your day trading strategy. By trading for only a few hours a day, and with a good strategy, you have the potential to make an incredible profit on your investment.

On strategy is called 'news playing'. News playing is the practice of watching for good and bad news within the market, and buying and selling accordingly. While the market does not always follow the news, learning how best to utilize the news with short bursts, can provide the opportunity to make great money.

Day trading provides the possibility to make a great profit on your original investment. While some make only small amounts, though enough to make a living, others will strike lucky, and find the market lucrative. Either way, there is always the chance of losing. To minimise losses, you should ensure to have a good strategy.
