Organic skin care doesn't mean you have to concoct face creams in your home kitchen anymore. Plenty of products are on the market these days promise 100% certified organic ingredients. Organic products are not all the same quality. You need to know the difference between certified organic and natural. If labelled certified organic it means it is backed by strict guidelines in the country where it is produced and may have to pass the same strict guidelines to be produced or sold in other countries.
What is certified organic, why do people want it and why is it a better choice than the chemical based products we have now? We address these questions in this article, giving you the information you need to make a decision about the right skin care for you. Certified organic products mean different things in different countries. In some countries nearly all products are required to be organic under that law. In the U.S. certified organic products fall under a few different guidelines; those that are 100% organic, those that are 70% or more organic, and those that are less than that. To be certified organic in the U.S. regulations stipulate that ingredients must be grown in soil that has been chemical free for more than three years. Farmers and manufactures must keep detailed proof of production records and sales records. They must also maintain strict physical separation of certified organic products from non-certified organic products. They must undergo periodic testing inspections at all sites on all levels. Additionally, they must pay licensing fees and inspection fees. Ingredients not manufactured or grown organically are gown in pesticide rich soil and many times covered in sewer sludge. Yes, the sewer and we all know nothing good could possibly be in that stuff! In addition, they will often use human feces to fertilize the plants and cancer causing chemicals to rid them of pests. If all these were not bad enough the use of human faeces can lead to all kinds of medications transferring to the product including antibiotic. So what difference does any of this make to the average consumer? For starters, these products are placed on our skin. The protective layer of our whole body that is capable of absorbing moisture and chemicals. Wait a minute; we absorb potential contaminants through our skin? Yes and what is more, our skins have a delicate balance of flora and bacteria useful for protecting our system. Cause an imbalance in this system and you can develop allergies or worse. Organic skin care means that there are no synthetic ingredients, no cancer causing poisons, and no pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers used in the production and manufacture of your skin care. This also means that there is no sewer sludge, industrial wastes, genetically modified organisms, antibiotics, or other synthetic food additives. Let's face it, who wants that gunk on their skin?
